Gear was written to accompany dance by choreographer Abigail Rich; it was part of a group of three short works by different composers, all choreographed together by Rich, collectively titled Acutely Chronic Dances. Abi always brings energy and unique, fresh ideas to her work, and this was no exception. Gear is a repetitive, somewhat mechanical piece, with constantly recycled musical materials; the dance reflects this focus, but injects a bit of humor as well.
Gear was first performed at “Between Zero and Infinity,” a recital produced by Abigail Alyn Dance Projects; it was also performed at the 2008 Hammer & Nail Concert in Bloomington, IN.
