Zeta-Beam Transfer was another piece written with dance in mind; it was a collaborative work with the excellent choreographer Justin Zuschlag. My initial inspiration was to do a dance piece that was filled with energy and propulsive rhythm, drawing loosely from strongly beat-driven popular dance music.
The title is drawn from science-fiction comics of the 1960s; some of the synthesized sounds have a distinctly “space-y” feeling to them. The music tries to subtly (and sometimes not so subtly) manipulate timbre throughout the work, but rhythmic drive is always at the fore.
